8/23 Listening Guide
Separating Sheep from Goats
Matthew 25:31-46
Introduction
As a kid, I always hated the whole process of “choosing up sides” to play a game. It meant someone would be picked last or not picked at all. It meant someone would be a loser. It seemed unfair to me. But it represented an eternal truth, one which Jesus reiterates in today’s lesson.
I. Wedding Crashers
There are those in the church who call themselves Christ followers and who may share testimony of a conversion experience, but who never feel compelled to help anyone in need.
II. Dual-focused
Missional Christians are not only focused on ministry to the lost, but to one another as well. There is a constant tension in the church about whether we should be inward-focused or outward-focused, as if we must choose one or the other. The missional church chooses both.
III. The Truth will Come Out
No matter how you interpret scripture about end times, you must see that at least some Christians will be judged by their willingness to meet the needs of their brethren.
