What the “Second Coming” Means to Us
I Thessalonians 4:13 – 5:11
Introduction
Paul’s purpose is writing to the Thessalonians about Christ’s return was primarily to encourage them in the midst of horrendous circumstances and persecution. Today in class, we explored how knowing the end of the story can encourage us as well.
I. Encourage One Another
For centuries, Christians have found hope and encouragement by looking beyond the hopelessness of their lives in this world to a world where Jesus reigns supreme. Knowing how God’s story ends gives us a different perspective on our life today. It changes how we cope with the petty and mundane difficulties of our days.
II. Preparing Ourselves
More than just encouragement, knowing the end also motivates us to live in a way which prepares us for the end. The kind of preparation expected of us as Christians is not one-time planning…it is lifestyle and character choices. It is the difference between planning for a wedding and planning for a marriage.
