The census was a way to keep Jews under Roman authority. The process of packing up your family and traveling to your ancestral home was certainly an inconvenience especially to an expectant mother.

Birth is beautiful…and messy
The manger scene sitting on your mangle probably did not take into effect the lack of sterility.

Ewwwww…Shepherds are Dirty
The angels proclaimed the news first to a class of Jew that would have certainly not been the worldly pick for a desirable audience. Their message established who they were looking for: Savior, Christ, Lord. Which means: deliverer, annointed one, master.

Trickle Up Economics
Rather than beginning from the top of society and working down, God demonstrates a much different method spreading the news of his arrival. What is clear, however, is that once you encounter this baby, you have such desire to tell others that it becomes infectious.

Once you have surrendered to an assignment from God, you should brace yourself for a series of twists and turns you did not see coming.

Unexpected destinations: Agreeing to be a part of delivering Jesus means being open to God taking you anywhere, including places you never dreamed of going.

Unexpected circumstances: Delivering Jesus to this world is God’s enterprise, not ours.  It will only happen God’s way, which will always include unimaginable, unforeseeable circumstances.

Unexpected partners: God’s assignments for delivering Jesus are rarely isolated tasks; you will almost certainly be working along side others.  You will be surprised who God brings into your life as joint venturers with you.

Unexpected lessons: Participating in delivering Jesus leaves you looking back in amazement and pondering the miracles of God’s hand working through you.
