I.  Acknowledging the Illness

Just as we need a doctor to tell us what is wrong physically, we need the Holy Spirit to convict us spiritually.  Salvation is neither a birthright nor something which we can earn; rather, it is a free gift which only comes when we acknowledge our need for it.

II.  The Law as Our Teacher

The purpose of God’s law is NOT to give us the way to salvation.  It is to remove all hope of achieving it on our own.  “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
