Core Listening Guide

Poor-Good……..Rich-Bad
Jesus continually preached a message that was contrary to public opinion and established norms. One common theme of Jesus’ message is how difficult it is for those who seek fortune to also seek after the Lord.
How does this message relate to our ideas of happiness and reward?

Give him my WHAT???
Acting without regard to self is one of the radical principles that Jesus espoused. Loving the lovely is certainly easier and safer in our own estimation, but Jesus has called us to love the unlovely with the same fervor as anyone else.
Thinking of this principle, how can you change your attitude right now? What response do you expect?

True Colors
Our true motivations will be clearly displayed when our hearts are examined. Even the most beautiful edifice can serve an evil purpose.
Are there areas of our lives, that if examined, are not nearly as “beautiful” as we would like others to believe?

Venture Listening Guide

A fundamental distinction of the Kingdom of God and a foundational mark of Christianity is how we relate to one another.

The things that define success in our world, the things which we tend to value the most are simply not the way things are ordered in the Kingdom of God.

Being wealthy or well fed or happy or praised by others are not bad things in and of themselves; but they have no bearing at all on my standing with God, and they are by no means signs of success in His eyes.

We should love those who are easy to love, but that is not what defines us as Christians.  Loving those who are impossible to love is what sets us apart.

The “judging” Jesus talks about requires knowing people’s heart, i.e., their deepest fears and motives.  The truth is, we cannot know that about each other, so Jesus says we should stop acting as if we do.
