Let the Revolution Begin – Matthew 28:1-10, 16-20

Introduction

Through the course of this study we have referred several times to Christianity as a revolution the likes of which this world has never seen elsewhere. Continuing with that metaphor, today’s lesson on the resurrection represents the icon of the revolution. If I were the one in charge of casting the vision for the revolution, I wouldn’t have everyone wearing crosses on necklaces…I would make the empty tomb our representative icon. Because, more than anything else Jesus did or said throughout the course of his ministry, it was the resurrection that really launched this revolution.

The icon of the revolution – Without the resurrection, we would still have Jesus’ ministry, His teachings, and a life lived perfectly…but there would be no revolution, no world-changing movement lasting the next 2,000 years.
The reality of the revolution – If there were disciples who followed Jesus’ ministry and who stood in the very presence of the resurrected Christ and who still doubted, how much more so now.
The mantra of the revolution – The Great Commission is a simple instruction for participants of this revolution. If I am not a part of making disciples, then I am not a part of the revolution Jesus had in mind.

The Difference it Makes – We in the revolution have our marching orders. They are plain and they are simple: make disciples. How are we doing?
